What are contact lens durations?

The duration of a pair of contact lenses simply refers to how long you can use the lenses for post-opening. So, if a pair of lenses is 1-day (or daily), this means that once opened, you can wear the lenses once, and then throw them out. Our 30-day and 90-day lenses are reusable. 30-day lenses (or monthly) can be worn for 30 days consecutively after opening, while the 90-day lenses can be worn for 90 days consecutively after opening. If you’re wondering- How long do contacts last? -then check the duration on the packaging, for everything you need to know.

Duration vs Expiry

Durations tell you how long you can wear your contact lenses for, but the expiry date is equally as important. Do contact lenses expire? Yes! Just like with any other product, your lenses have an expiry date on their packaging. After the expiration date, you should no longer use the lenses, regardless of their durations. Expired contact lenses need to be disposed of immediately. When you receive your contact lenses, make sure that you check both the duration and the expiry, to determine how long you can use your lenses for.

1-Day Lenses

Let’s get into the nitty gritty- daily contact lenses, also known as 1-day contact lenses, make up a big chunk of our stock. But what are daily contact lenses, and why should you choose them?

Well, if you’re looking for ease and convenience, these are the contact lenses for you. Daily contact lenses are disposable, which means that you only have to wear them once and then throw them out. This means that you can avoid any faff around cleaning and storing your lenses for future use. These disposable lenses are also the cheapest contact lenses, thanks to their short duration. If you’re looking for contact lenses cheap, this is your best bet. You can shop our daily contact lenses with prices as low as £2.00, and mix and match them with our multibuy offer to really get your money’s worth. For first-time lens users and contact experimenters, this is the best way to practise without spending too much.

Want the convenience of daily lenses with more wear? Shop our 10-pack dailies, perfect for giving you days of wear without the hassle of reusing the same lenses.

30-Day Lenses

Next up- our monthly lenses! Monthly contact lenses (AKA 30-day contact lenses) can be worn for 30 days after first opening the package. When it comes to daily contact lenses vs monthly, you might be wondering what the benefit is. After all, monthly lenses tend to cost slightly more, so why should you spend more for the same style? Well, our monthly contacts give you the added benefit of being reusable. This means that within those 30 days, you can use the lenses again and again, getting as much wear out of them as you want. For as low as £2.25, you can get the same amount of wear as 30 daily lenses! Choose extended wear lenses if you want a full month’s colour transformation. Just remember that you’ll need to clean and store your lenses in between uses, so make sure to also check out our accessories page (in the menu above) for contact lens solution and cheap sterile contact cases.

90-Day Lenses

We’ve talked about our daily and monthly options, but there’s one more duration that you may not be aware of. For those who love wearing lenses and who want the absolute best value for money, we recommend our 90-day styles. Our 90-day contact lenses can be worn for up to 90 days after first opening the package, so if you know that this is a style you’re absolutely obsessed with, go the extra mile and purchase our 90-day variation. While these lenses are a little more expensive than their daily and monthly counterparts, they’re sure to save you money in the long run, thanks to their ultra-long wear!

Contact Lens DOs and DON’Ts:

DO- purchase lenses with the right measurements for your eyes. The wrong base curve and diameter could make the lenses slightly uncomfortable for your eyes.

DO- check the lenses before opening the package. Make sure that the style and duration match what you ordered, check that the lenses aren’t expired, and if your packaging features a little window, you can even check for damage and debris to the lenses themselves. Unopened packaging will be much easier to return in case of an issue.

DO- always use clean hands and sterile equipment to handle the lenses.

DO- soak the lenses in contact lens solution for 2 hours before your first use.

DO- clean reusable lenses with contact lens solution in between uses, and store them in a sterile contact lens case.

DON’T- let any foreign substance come into contact with your lenses, not even water. This could cause the lenses to be contaminated with bacteria that could hurt your eyes.

DON’T- wear your lenses past their intended duration, or past their expiry date.

DON’T- wear your lenses for any longer than 8 hours at a time, to avoid your eyes drying out.

DON’T- wear your lenses overnight, in the shower, or while swimming.
