What is contact lens solution?
Contact lens solution is an anti-bacterial, eye-safe solution that allows you to clean and store your contact lenses so that they remain sterile. Dirty or damaged lenses can cause discomfort and irritation to your eyes, so it’s very important to follow the proper cleaning process. Contact lens solution is used to clean and store reusable contact lenses between uses, but that’s not all. Even if you’re purchasing a pair of daily, single-use lenses, you’ll still need eye-safe solution to prepare your contacts for use.
Why do I need to use lens solution?
Our lenses come in blister packs, which contain a preserving solution. Because of this, you might be thinking- do I really need to buy lens solution too? Couldn’t I just put the lenses directly into my eyes? The reason that you can’t insert lenses straight from the packaging is that our preserving solution in the blister packs is very strong. It needs to be strong to keep the lenses fresh and ready, but if you were to put the lenses straight into your eye, the solution would be too harsh and could cause discomfort. Cleaning and soaking the lenses with eye-safe solution removes the harsh preserving solution and allows for safe insertion.
What is the best contact lens solution?
When shopping for eye contact solution, you want to make sure that you’re finding eye-safe, antibacterial solution. There are plenty of antibacterial solutions that are too harsh for the eyes, and there are also plenty of eye-safe saline solutions that don’t kill any bacteria. For useful, safe cleaning, you’ll need to find a solution that’s both gentle and antibacterial. We recommend our Chromaview All-In-One Contact Lens Solution. This eye-safe contact solution is gentle and neutral to the eyes, while still containing crucial disinfectant properties. You can stock up on our 100ml bottles below, contact lens case included, and ensure that you always have the tools for seamless lens wear.
How To Use Contact Lens Solution- BEFORE You Insert The Lenses:
The first thing you should do when you receive a pair of lenses is inspect them. You can do this before even opening the packaging by making sure that the prescription, lens color, measurements, and lens expiry date all line up with your expectations. Once you open the blister packs, you should also examine the lenses themselves and ensure that there is no damage or debris. You should only ever handle the contacts with clean hands, or you can use one of our sterile tweezers if you prefer.
Do the contact lenses look good? Now, you can start the cleaning process. As we already mentioned, a pair of lenses fresh from the packaging won’t be ready to be inserted immediately. The cleaning and soaking process required to remove the harsher preserving solution will take two hours or more, so please make sure that you’re planning this out in advance, especially if you need the lenses for a specific event.
How to clean contact lenses: Use the contact lens solution to rinse the lenses, being very careful not to damage them. This is the only liquid that should ever be in contact with your lenses. Any foreign substance- even water- could introduce harmful bacteria that could irritate your eyes. Once you’ve thoroughly cleaned them, pour a little eye-safe solution into your sterile contact lens case. You should then place your lenses carefully inside the contact case, and leave them to soak for a minimum of two hours. After this, you can be sure that your lenses will be safe for wear.
How To Use Contact Lens Solution- AFTER You Remove The Lenses:
Once you’ve inserted your lenses, you can wear them all day long (though never more than 8 hours at a time), and make the most of your gorgeous new look. If your lenses are daily, single-use contacts, you can remove them and immediately throw them away. However, if you are using monthly or 90-day contact lenses, you will need to clean them and store them in preparation for your next use. This is the same process you already went through; simply use your contact lens solution to rinse off the lenses, making sure that they are not damaged or dirty.
How to store contact lenses: Once they’re clean, you can leave them to soak inside your sterile lens case, with a small amount of fresh eye-safe solution. Now they’ll be ready for your next use!
Hopefully, you’re now a pro at using contact lens solution. Whether this is your first or your hundredth lens wear, a little eye-safe solution is always helpful. If you want to browse our solution, sterile cases, or any of our other contact lens accessories, you can find them here:
