Poisonous Frog Makeup Tutorial, ft. @beautybyreade
Welcome to another Crazy Lenses tutorial! Today, we’re going to be going over a new trend that we’ve been seeing pop up everywhere: poisonous frog makeup! If you’ve been on the makeup side of social media, you’ll have seen a big wave of poisonous dart frog looks over the past couple of months. These looks are iconic, with gorgeous colour gradients and fun leopard pattern detailing. It’s not hard to see why people love this look so much, and a few of our very own talented affiliates have been trying their hand at this, so let’s take a look!
Before we get into the tutorial, we’ve got a couple of gorgeous makeup examples from our affiliate @makeupby_esc, who’s experimented with the poisonous dart frog trend not once but twice!
As you can see, @makeupby_esc uses bold color gradients as a base, layering beautiful symmetrical patterns and glossy details over the top for an iconic look. She’s also using our Black Mini Sclera Lenses, which are great for a look like this thanks to their monochromatic design and wide-eyed shape. The only question is- which frog is your favourite? Red or green?
Our next look comes from someone who wanted to use both colour spectrums in a single look- our affiliate, @beautybyreade! This frog look is simply iconic, with a gorgeous color melt going all the way from blues and greens to a bold crimson red, and beautiful frog spots over the face and neck. First, you need ot lay down your colors. In @bautybyreade’s video, red is the main color, and so that’s the colour that’s laid down first. You can use our Mehron color cups or palettes for a super-pigmented, colourful base, and make sure to set with powder so that your colours don’t bleed!

Next, add some shading with more colours. In the video, @beautybyreade uses a light pink concealer and some black eyeshadow to create the bright spots and shadows of the look.

Now it’s time for the details! Your frog spots are super important to the look- do you want them to be perfectly symmetrical, or artistically spread? You can use a black liner or pigmented face paint for this part, which you can find in our Painglow collection.

Next up is your eyeshadow and lip. This is where you can truly make the look your own, playing around with complementary colours. Want to truly get that poisonous jungle frog aesthetic? Add some shimmer and gloss for a dewy, wet look!

And of course, you can’t forget the lenses! We recommend one of our block-color costume lenses. A black lens is always a big hit, of course, but you can copy @beautybyreade’s example and go a little crazier, with an asymmetrical colour combo!
