Glossary:
Duration-
Contact lens durations refer to how long you can wear the lenses for. Our daily lenses, for instance, are single-use only. That means that you can wear them once, and then you must throw them away. That’s also why they’re our cheapest options. Our 30-day lenses can be worn for up to 30 days consecutively after opening the packaging. Similarly, our 90-day lenses can be worn for up to 90 days consecutively after opening the packaging. Just remember that you’ll need to care for your lenses in between uses. Read more about durations here.
Expiry-
If durations refer to how long you can wear your lenses, what’s a lens expiry date? Well, just like with any perishable product, contact lenses can only be safe for use for so long. The expiry date on your packaging tells you when the lenses expire. After this date, the lenses cannot be worn and must be thrown away, no matter their duration.
Prescription/Power-
This one is pretty common knowledge, but you still want to make sure that you know exactly what it means. You may see this written as ‘power’, ‘strength’, ‘prescription’, or ‘corrective strength’. It refers to the prescription of the lenses. If you have poor eyesight, you’ll want to make sure that you find the right prescriptive strength for your eyes. Unfortunately, Crazy Lenses is not currently stocking prescription lenses. If your vision is absolutely fine, then you can shop our non-prescription options. This will be written as 0.00 (plano).
Diameter-
Your eye measurements are just as important as your prescription. The first measurement is ‘diameter’. This refers to the diameter of your eye, and differs from person to person. You can check the lens details on a product page to make sure that the diameter matches up with what you’re looking for.
Base Curve-
Just like with the eye diameter, the base curve is an important measurement that you’ll want to adhere to. Most of the lenses on our website have an 8.6 base curve, but make sure that you check the lens details before buying.
Style-
This refers to the type of lens that you’re purchasing. For instance, are you interested in a natural, realistic contact lens? Or maybe you’re looking for the perfect character-themed costume lens to complete your new cosplay look. Make sure that you pick the right style for you!
Range-
Different lenses can also be part of different ranges. For instance, we have costume SFX ranges like our UV-reactive range, which lights up under UV light, or our Blind range, which covers the entire eye for a ‘blinded’ look. Some of our ranges have special features, and we’ll make sure to include plenty of information on the product page. For example, our Blind lenses cover the pupil, which means that your vision will be significantly impaired when you wear them. As this is very key information, we’ve made sure to include plenty of references to it in the images and text of each blind contact lens. Make sure to read all of the information on your lens page before you buy it, so that you can know about any special features or details.
Material-
Another piece of information that you’ll find on your lens page is the material of the contacts. We stock a range of lenses, which means that there are plenty of different lens materials. All of the materials we use are completely safe, but it’s always important to check which one it is, regardless, in case you have any allergies or sensitivities.
Water content-
Alongside the material, you’ll find the water content. Each pair of contact lenses has a water content, written as a percentage. Water contents range from 32% to 55%. Lenses with a higher water content tend to be softer and more flexible, while lenses with a lower water content are usually thicker and harder. For first-time lens users, we recommend picking a pair of lenses that’s soft, flexible, and hydrated. You can find scales on each product page to show you how soft and flexible a lens is.
We hope that this glossary has been helpful, but if you’re a little overwhelmed by all of these different terms, don’t worry! Our product pages are set up to be really easy to navigate. Here’s an example, using our UV White Contact Lenses:
This is the first thing you’ll see when you click on one of our lenses. Here’s the breakdown, bit by bit.
-
The title- this is the name of the lenses, which contains all of the key information, including the range, style, colour, and duration of the lenses. Here, we can see that this lens is a costume contact lens, part of our UV range, white, and daily.
-
Next to the image of the lens, we have our measurements: Diameter and base curve.
-
Below the measurements is the prescriptive strength. This is a non-prescription lens, so the 0.00 (plano) option has already been selected for you.
-
The lens images are useful for seeing what the lens looks like in real life. Here, you can see the white lenses in regular lighting as well as UV lighting. If you use the arrow to scroll down, you can also find images of our affiliates wearing the lenses, so that you can see what they look like in real life.
-
The price is shown clearly, while the text below it also lets you know which sales and offers the lenses are eligible for. In this case, you can add the UV White Lenses to our 3 for 2 deal.
-
Finally, we have a few additional products popping up on the right. We show you these according to what we think you might like. The Chromaview Solution, for example, is really useful for cleaning and storing your lenses, so you might want to add it to your order. You can toggle on each additional product quickly and easily instead of having to add it to your cart separately.
Here’s your ‘Add to Cart’ button, with a few more helpful bits and pieces. In order…
-
The ‘View Options’ button will show you a dropdown of all the different countries we ship to. You can click on it to change your address and see different shipping options.
-
These different icons show you the different colours we have for this lens. For the UV White Lenses, we have the same style in blue or in yellow. You can click on one of those icons to go straight to the different lens.
As we mentioned, it’s important to read your entire product page so that you don’t miss any key information. All of the key images and measurements are at the top, but if you scroll down, you’ll be able to see a more comprehensive list of all of the lens features, along with an important description of the lenses. Check out this useful table, containing the lens measurements, strength, material, water content, and duration.
Want even more information? Below the table, you’ll find our selling points and product scales. The selling points tell you all of the reasons why our lenses are so good. They’ll also give you any key information about the range of lenses. Our product scales show you three things. First, they show you how comfortable and flexible the lenses are. If you’re worried about your lenses being uncomfortable, you can find a pair of lenses that ranks as super-comfortable, for easy and safe wear. The ‘coverage scale’ shows you how pigmented the lenses are. For those with dark eyes, we recommend browsing for lenses that have very high coverage. The third scale is our ‘visibility scale’, which tells you how well you’ll be able to see with the lenses on. If the lens covers your pupil or impairs your vision in any way, this scale will let you know.
Finally, you can find more information on the lens range right at the bottom of the page. Here, you’ll find a paragraph describing the range and explaining any special features. Click on the banner to find all of the other lenses within that range.
We hope that this care guide has helped you understand your contact lenses a little more. From finding the right lenses to examining your lens packaging, we’re here to help. We want every contact lens experience to be as simple and carefree as possible, so if you have any other questions, make sure to check out our other care guides for plenty of information on every step of the process!
