Are You Ready For Zombie Girl Summer?

Are You Ready For Zombie Girl Summer?

28 Years Later has finally arrived on our screens, and we cannot wait to check out this film. The trailer took the world by storm when it dropped late last year. With its creepy audio and plenty of snapshot scenes reminding us how creepy this world’s zombies were, we can feel a zombie-girl summer approaching.

We have plenty of costume lenses that would be the perfect finishing touch to your zombie cosplay, but in this blog, we’ll be running through the most popular lenses from our collection.

Looking back over twenty years to when the first film was released, we can see that the zombies of this film (referred to in-world as The Infected) had bright red eyes, using contact lenses to cover the actor’s natural eye colours. As these characters were infected with the ‘Rage Virus’, which caused mindless aggression and uncontrollable anger - resulting in the killing machines we refer to as zombies - it is fitting that their eyes would become red and inhuman to suit.

We have plenty of red contact lenses that would be perfect for a costume of one of these terrifying zombies, such as our Vampire Zombie Red Costume Contact Lenses. These lenses are a bold, blood red colour that will catch the attention of everyone around you. Our zombie red lenses would be the ideal finishing touch to your 28 Days Later inspired costume. Tear up some old clothes and add a liberal touch of fake blood to complete the look; we have plenty of fake blood available in 260mm, 130mm, 50mm, or 12mm bottles. Choose the size and colour that best suits your needs. For this gruesome costume, we’d recommend the Paintglow Dark Red Fake Blood, or the Mehron Dark Venus Fake Stage Blood for an old and dried, rotting look.

Another pair of red contact lenses we would recommend is our Mini Sclera Red Costume Contact Lenses. These lenses capture the sense of infection and horrifying tunnel vision that the zombies in the 28 _ Later trilogy embody. The iris of these lenses covers more of the whites of your eyes with their larger diameter, leading to an uncanny and creepy effect. These SFX contact lenses perfectly mirror the contact lenses used in the previous films, reflecting the terrifying change that comes over these people once they have been infected. Despite the wider diameter, these lenses do not obscure your vision, so if you want to go as a spooky zombie later in the year during Halloween, these lenses are ideal.

Our Halloween Red Contact Lenses are a darker red, fantastic for an older and more decayed zombie look. Past the trailers, we haven’t seen too much of the 28 Years Later zombies yet, but we can imagine how much they’ve rotted over the period. From the zombie we saw in the meadow in the trailer, we can see that they’ve suffered over the years, turning into skeletal figures. The darker contact lenses are a great potential way to help convey this sense of time passing if you want to distinguish your 28 Years Later inspired look.

Our Blind White Contact Lenses are ideal for a zombie costume, giving you a glazed and dead-eyed stare. These lenses completely cover the pupil and blend into the white sclerae of your eyes, resulting in a creepily vacant and soulless look that is perfect for portraying a zombie. However, because these lenses do cover your pupil, they also obscure your vision. We DON’T recommend driving, being in dark or crowded spaces, or moving around lots outside if you’re wearing these lenses. These blind contact lenses are great for a photoshoot if you’re an SFX artist, but not a pair of lenses you’d want to dress up in to attend the screening!

However, for a less generic zombie look and one more related to the 28 franchise, we would recommend trying out the Blind Red Contact Lenses. Combining both the chilling, vacant effect and the red mist that descends over the eyes of the zombies in the films, these lenses are the ultimate pair for your terrifying 28 Years Later costume. The vibrant, blood red pigment and high coverage design of these lenses means they completely cover your natural eye colour and pupil, removing the human qualities of your eyes for an uncanny and creepy effect. Despite their high opacity, these lenses are comfortable to wear and help to maintain the health of your eyes through their top-quality materials and composition.

All of our lenses are FDA-approved, so you can be assured of your safety whilst wearing them; take care to thoroughly read our care guides and instructional leaflet in preparation for wearing your lenses. We also do NOT recommend wearing any of our lenses for over 8 hours consecutively. Even with our top-quality construction and breathable materials, to help upkeep the health and comfort of your eyes, we recommend taking your lenses out after 8 hours to let them rest. Exceeding this time limit can result in dry, irritated, and reddened eyes. Ensure you clean and inspect your lenses before and after every use; putting damaged lenses or lenses with debris stuck to them in your eye can result in serious harm, such as an infection (not the rage kind) or a scratched cornea. We want everyone using contact lenses to have fun, which means being safe and sure in what you are doing.

We may not get a zombie-girl summer, but we wouldn’t be surprised if there was a surge in zombie-related costumes this Halloween following the release of the second season of The Last of Us, along with the apparent instant success of 28 Years Later, currently with a score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. Get your practice in now, and find a pair of lenses you love so you can win all the costume competitions this coming Halloween!
