Mesh contact lenses have inspired SFX makeup artists to create aliens, fantasy creatures, Halloween monsters, and editorial makeup looks. The unusual style of mesh contact lenses covers the iris and pupil in colour but is not fully pigmented like blind effect lenses.

What are mesh contact lenses?

Mesh contact lenses cover the iris and pupil in colour but with very small transparent squares in between. This extensive eye coverage will not only change your eye colour but also will obscure vision. Most other types of coloured contact lenses have a clear pupil so that you will still have full vision.

Mesh screen contact lenses are a great choice if you want to try blind effect coloured contact lenses but don’t want to completely cover your vision. Mesh contact lenses allow some light through and some people find they can adjust and see through the transparent squares. The mesh contact lenses are excellent for photoshoots.

If you are going to go out in your mesh contact lenses to an event such as a Halloween party, we recommend trying on the lenses before the big day so you can check whether you are comfortable with having limited vision.

The mesh contact lenses are popular among creative makeup artists as their unusual design inspires all kinds of costumes, from creepy to cute.

Can you see through mesh contacts?

Mesh contacts have small transparent squares that allow you to see through the lenses. However, your vision, in particular your peripheral vision, will be obscured because it is being covered by colour. They do limit vision and should never be worn while driving.

There are different types of mesh contact lenses available; from different colours to varying durations and even white mesh contact lenses prescription. Most commonly mesh contact lenses are made with non-prescription lenses which only provide a colour change and not vision correction. Here are some of the colours and styles available:

  • Red Mesh Contact Lenses - Red mesh is a bright Halloween shade of blood red for creepy monster eyes. While red mesh lenses can be used as part of all kinds of costumes and SFX makeup, they are most commonly used during Halloween.
  • Halloween Contact Lenses White Mesh - The creepy ethereal white is perfect for Halloween but has also been used in surprising makeup looks. From cosplay to fantasy makeup to editorial makeup, the white screen lenses have proven to be versatile.
  • Black Mesh Contact Lenses - Covering your eyes in black colour is a cool way to extend your pupils giving alien eyes. The mesh style has small transparent holes which will look different depending on the light and your eye colour but the overall effect is very spooky and supernatural.
  • UV Mesh Contact Lenses - Some of our mesh contact lenses glow under UV blacklight. Choose a pair of lenses from our UV range to experience this glow and see the classic block colour under normal light.

Mesh contact lenses are available in a variety of durations to suit your needs. Most commonly, they are available in 1 day single-use duration. These daily lenses can be worn for up to 8 hours and then disposed of. This is perfect for one-off events such as Halloween or editorial photoshoots. However, if you like to regularly wear your mesh contact lenses for creative makeup or cosplay then you may prefer 30 day or 90 day coloured contact lenses. Reusable contact lenses can be worn multiple times as long as they are correctly cleaned and stored in between use. Use fresh multipurpose lens solution and store your mesh lenses in an airtight contact lens case.

We use high quality pigmentation in all our coloured contact lenses to ensure you get a vibrant eye colour change as well as keep your eyes safe. Our designs are printed on soft coloured contact lenses using a specialist process. These soft lenses are flexible and lightweight so that you can wear them comfortably for up to 8 hours a day.

Whether you choose white mesh contacts for spooky Halloween characters or black mesh lenses for supernatural alien eyes, your mesh contact lenses will help you to embody the character you are cosplaying or complete your creative makeup but remember that they will affect your field of vision due to partially covering your iris.
